KISS: Some rare albums... He elegido estos cuatro Lp´s como representación de lo que podríamos denominar "discos raros de KISS que no llegan a ser rarezas-del-copón". Tengo muchos, pero he escogido estos cuatro, porque tienen algo especial: "LIGHTNING" es un disco promocional que grabó Eric Carr años antes de entrar en KISS. La música que contiene es bastante insufrible. He leido por ahí que hay menos de 50 copias en el mundo. Pero como Eric no fue miembro original su valor no es tan alto (supongo). "CHELSEA" es el que grabó Peter Criss, este sí, miembro original. El tercero es la edición canadiense de "THE ORIGINALS", un viejo disco de edición limitada, firmado por Paul & Gene, pero al que le faltan los "inserts". El siguiente es uno de los promos de los años 70 más conocidos del grupo, cada vez más difíciles de conseguir, aunque este no es el más raro. El siguiente es "KISS", el primer y homónimo disco del grupo, en su rara y primerísima versión con la galleta "Blue Bogart #1", y sin el tema "Kissin´ time" (NB 9001). Por último, "GUITAR TECHNIQUE OF ACE FREHLEY", disco japonés del 78 en el que suenan solos de guitarra de 8 temas clásicos de KISS, a varias velocidades, para aprender su técnica. These KISS albums are representative of what I could call "Rare KISS albums that don´t reach the mega-rare status" bunch. I got a few of those Lp´s, but I just picked these five, because they are special to me somehow. "LIGHTNING" is the (terrible) promo album Eric Carr recorded years before joining KISS. I read somewhere that there are only 50 copies worldwide. Eric was not the original drummer for KISS, so I guess not many people would care. Original KISS drummer Peter Criss did the same with "CHELSEA", a more appealing album. The third one is the Canadian version of the limited-edition album "THE ORIGINALS". Signed by Paul & Gene, but with all the inserts missing. The next one is one of the most sought-after promos from the 70´s (but not the rarest). Next is "KISS", the very first edition of their very first album, with the Casablanca "blue Bogart #1" center ring and the song "Kissin´ time" missing (NB 9001). The last one is "GUITAR TECHNIQUE OF ACE FREHLEY", a rare Japanese album released in 78. Not a real official KISS album, but it appears on many record guides because of its rareness. On the album, a guy (NOT Ace) plays the solos of 8 KISS songs at differernt speed to learn Ace´s technique. Signed by Ace himself | ||||||

WHITE ZOMBIE: "Psycho-head blowout" signed by Sean Yseult Este es el primer Lp de White Zombie. Cortito, pero Lp (sólo 7 canciones, aunque uno da gracias que no sea más largo). Hasta este punto sólo habían grabado singles. Es difícil determinar si "Psyco-head blowout" es peor que el siguiente, "Soul crusher". En cualquier caso se trata de música ratonera de lo más irritante, que le hace preguntarse a uno no sólo como White Zombie llegaron a ser tan buenísimos con el paso del tiempo, sino cómo consiguieron que alguna compañía les permitiera grabar semejantes bodrios. This is White Zombie´s first Lp. Up to this point they had only released singles. It´s hard to decide whether this one is more irritating than the following "Soul crusher". Anyway, they´re both pretty hard to swallow, to say the least. It makes you wonder how the band developed to such high quality after a few years. But specially how they found record labels to release such terrible records! | ||||

KISS: "Kiss meets the phantom" original script (yes, it DID have a script!!) Si a usted le gustan las pelis bizarras, las de serie Z y las de Ed Wood, no se pierdan esta maravilla. De puro mala es una joya de obligado visionado. Una vez le preguntaron a Paul Stanley "Después de tantos años ¿cómo ves la película?" y el respondió "Lo más infrecuentemente posible". En cualquier caso, aquí esta la prueba de que el guión existía.... (PD para fans despistados: Existen dos versiones distintas de la peli). Después de mucho años y plegarias la peli salió en dvd... Pero sin los ansiadas escenas extra If you enjoy bizarre, psychotronic and Ed Wood films, that movie is for you. It´s so terrible you have to love it. Paul Stanley was once asked "After all these years, how do you see the movie?". And he replied "As unfrequently as possible". Anyway, here´s proof that the movie ACTUALLY had a script... (PS for unaware KISS fans: There are two different versions of the movie).After years of prayers the movie was released on dvd... but without any deleted escenes (maybe they were no such things after all) |  | |||

KISS: Rare international editions on vinyl La diferencia entre un coleccionista y uno que no lo es (o entre un enfermo y un sano) es que el primero está dispuesto a comprar un mismo disco otra vez (y otra, y otra...) si existe una edición con portada distinta. Y 25 años coleccionando material de KISS dan para mucho. Comenzamos a relatar por orden: "MAS CALIENTE QUE EL INFIERNO" es el "Hotter than hell" argentino (uno de los más raros); "PEOR QUE EL INFIERNO" es el mismo, pero en edición mexicana. Los dos siguientes son las dos partes de "EN VIVO" (Argentina), que se vendían por separado y que corresponde a los dos discos de "Alive!". "HOTTER THAN METAL" y "SUPERSTAR" son ediciones italianas que incluyen sólo el primer disco de "Alive!" (y con Eric Carr en la portada...). Luego tenemos la famosa edición de la mancha de sangre con la que apareció el "ROCK AND ROLL OVER" en Argentina. En México sacaron una edición de "Rock and Roll over" llamada "30 AÑOS DE MÚSICA ROCK. SALVAT". "PAUL, PETER, ACE Y GENE" es una edición argentina con lo mejor de los discos en solitario, con diferente portada y tracklist. Luego tenemos "DESENMASCARADO" que es el "Unmasked" argentino, con todos los diálogos del cómic traducidos al español. "THE SINGLES" es una recopilación de portada muy chunga que sólo se vendió en Australia; "O ROCK DE KISS" es otro recopilatorio que sólo se vendió en Brasil. Es doble, y la selección de temas hacen de el un disco simplemente cojonudo ("She´s so European", "Charisma", "Shock me" en directo, "Take me away"...). "FELICIDADES 81" basa su interés en la portada, porque aunque es doble sólo contiene una canción de KISS ("Detroit rock city"). El resto es, en altísimo porcentaje, pura colitis sonora. Es mexicano, como indica la portada. Luego tenemos la edición japonesa de "THE ELDER", y por último "ROCANROLEANDO TODA LA NOCHE", que es la edición mexicana del "Kiss killers". The difference between a serious collector and an ordinary human being (o between the insane and the sane) is that the first one is willing to buy the same record again (and again, and again...) if it features a different cover. After 25 years of KISS collecting I have gotten myself quite a few of these. "PAUL, PETER, ACE Y GENE" is also from Argentina. It´s a "best of solo albums" with different tracklisting and cover. "DESENMASCARADO" is the Argentinian "Unmasked", with the dialogues translated into Spanish. "THE SINGLES" is an Australia-only best-of album, whith a very low-quality cover; "O ROCK DE KISS" is another "best of", a two-record set, only sold in Brazil, but this one´s brilliant, with some rare songs included ("She´s so European", "Charisma", "Shock me" live, "Take me away"...). "FELICIDADES 81" is interesting because of its cover only. It´s a two-album set with lots of crap and a KISS song ("Detroit rock city"). You can tell by looking at the cover that is Mexican. Then you can see the Japanese edition of "THE ELDER" (not so rare, but still pretty cool), and finally "ROCANROLEANDO TODA LA NOCHE", which is the Mexican edition of the "Kiss Killers" album. | ||

NIRVANA: "Outcesticide" 8-cd unofficial box set Sinceramente, cuando se anunció la salida de una caja oficial de Nirvana, pensé que el valor de ésta, que es material "bootleg", iba a caer en picado. Pero no es así. Mientras que la caja oficial contiene 3 cd-s y un dvd, esta contiene 8 cd´s. Mientras la oficial tiene 61 canciones, esta tiene 172 (sí, han leido bien). En cuanto al libreto, eso si, ésta está muy por debajo, ya que el que trae tiene sólo 6 páginas. Cada cd viene con caja transparente, fotos en color, e información cronológica acerca de los temas. Lo mejor es comprar las dos cajas, la oficial y la pirata, porque hay canciones que aparecen en una, pero no en la otra, y viceversa. Y mucho tiempo libre. When it was announced that an official Nirvana boxset was to come out, I honestly thought that the value of this one would sink. But it´s not the case. While the official boxset features 3cd´s and a dvd, this one offers 8 cd´s. The official one contains 61 songs; This one 172 (yes, 172). When it comes to talk about the booklet, this one is a lot worse: just a 6-page booklet, while the other one features a pretty nice book. Each of this 8 cd´s features clear cd case, color pictures, and info on the songs, and a time line. The ideal choice is to buy both of them, the official, and this bootleg, because there are plenty of songs that are included in one of the sets, but missing in the other, and viceversa. | ||||

Sólo dejaban un artículo por persona, así que de los que llevaba conmigo elegí este, que al ser rojo quedaban mejor las firmas. Previsor que es uno. In 1.997 Aerosmith had a record signing session in Madrid. Each person was only allowed to have one single item autographed so, out of all the things I had with me, I picked this album, because I figured the red background would match great with the black marker. |  | |||
